How to re-wax your Barbour Jacket
A wax cotton jacket, such as those from Barbour will last for many years. In order to retain its waterproof qualities and durability, we suggest in getting your wax jacket re-waxed once a year. This is very simple to do, either send it to Barbour’s customer service team who will re-wax and make any alternations for you. Alternatively, it is fairy straightforward and quicker to do in the comfort of your own home. We suggest waxing with a tin of Thornproof Wax Dressing, a wax that is approved by Barbour. You should only need one tin, two if the garment is in a very tired condition.

- Always fully read the instructions on the tin
- Carry out the rewaxing in a safe area and out of reach of children
- Never put your wax jacket in the washing machine – this will permanently remove the wax coating and will not be able to be rewaxed
Throughly clean the outside of your jacket with cold water and a sponge. Avoid using hot water and any kind of soap as this will damage the wax coating.
Soften the wax by placing the tin in a container of hot water. Expect this step to take roughly 20 minutes or until the wax has turned into a liquid consistency.
Work the melted wax well into the jacket with an old cloth or sponge. Particular attention should be paid to seams, creases and dry patches. Ensure to keep wax away from the corduroy collar, inside out jacket and inside out pockets. Excess wax should be wiped off to ensure no clumps are sitting on the coat. Blow over your jacket with a hair dryer to make sure the wax is evenly spread for a smooth finish.
Once jacket is fully re-waxed, hang it up in a warm place away from other garments. Allow for the jacket to dry overnight. Be aware that the jacket may lose excess wax for a short while so take care not to get your newly waxed jacket near leather or upholstery.
