Voted one of the UK's best seaside towns by The Rough Guide in 2017, Southwold is the perfect place to come and unwind. Boasting the Adnams Brewery and Distillery on your doorstep, stunning sandy beaches, an iconic pier, an array of eateries and independent shops, there is something for everyone. If you are planning a trip to our quintessentially British seaside town, but want some insiders tips on where to stay and things to do, then look no further than our guide below.

Where to stay:

The Sail Loft

Surrounded by sand dunes and marsh land, The Sail Loft is the perfect place to escape the busy world. Offering four bedrooms, each with an ensuite and beautiful view of the surrounding landscape and a dog friendly bar/restaurant on the ground floor, it is the perfect base to explore the area from.

Where to eat:

The signature restaurant at The Swan Hotel, the Still Room is an elegant restaurant and takes its name from the Brewery's small-batch distillery. An influence which is reflected through the restaurant, including the stunning copper cocktail bar and bespoke bottle lighting, both being a nod to the companies heritage. Open to both guest and non-residents, the restaurant offers world-class food which champions local produce with a coastal charm.

A place on everyone's bucket list when they visit Southwold, Harris & James prides itself in quality products using local ingredients and is perhaps most loved for their homemade gelato, which is available in a wide range of tantalising flavours. Offering delicious pastries, ethically-sourced coffee, handmade chocolates and fresh filled croissants and ciabattas, Harris & James is perfect lunch spot!

No trip to the seaside is complete without Fish and Chips, and Southwold certainly does not disappoint. Our favourite spot is right outside our front door on East Street, making it very hard to resist at lunchtime! Owned by the Sole Bay Fish Company, find a selection of fresh fish caught from their own boat on the menu along with Oysters, Shellfish, double cooked chips and mushy peas. All which can be washed down with a glass or two of champagne! Just a stone throw from the beach, there really is no better place to get your fix.

Things to do:

A great experience for all Gin lovers! Ran by the town's world famous brewery and distillery Adnams, this activity sees you creating your own personalised tipple from scratch! From selecting your own choice of botanical flavours to carrying out the distillation process with the guidance of an experienced Adnams Gin maker, this course is a must for all gin lovers! Booking is essential due to the popularity and tickets can be booked online here.

Southwold Pier

Southwold Pier was built in 1900 as a landing stage for steamships travelling from London Bridge and is now a landmark of the East Coast. Welcoming thousands of visitors each year, the pier offers fabulous food, retail outlets and the iconic eccentric amusement arcade, the Under The Pier Show. We would recommend trying the holiday in an arm chair! A proper day out for all the family.

Head To The Beach

No trip to Southwold is complete without a trip to the seaside, a 2 mile stretch of golden sands lined with the town's iconic beach huts, it really is the jewel of Southwold. A dog friendly beach, with plenty of space without feeling overcrowded, it is the perfect day out for all the family.
