For the first of our #AskTheExpert series we knew exactly who to turn to and what to ask of them.

Mandy Oxley Swan has been a friend of ours for many years and is our go-to skin and beauty expert. One of London's top facialists she is a sought after adviser and our resident sage on all things skin care.

So the most pressing first question we need to ask our expert is;

'All this mask wearing is taking it's toll on our skin, can you help please?'

“Maskne. A word I would have never imagined writing about only 6 month’s ago. But along with hand sanitiser, Face Masks or Coverings, are now a daily handbag essential to prevent the spread of Coronavirus. But there’s a not so glamorous side effect of wearing these masks. "Maskne". Mostly identified as tiny little whiteheads/congestion that appear after wearing your paper or cloth mask. They can often be found along the contact points of the mask. Another way a cloth mask can cause breakouts is when you don’t wash it and the cloth has a build up of dirt and bacteria. Rule this out by washing your mask with each use. Don’t let it fester in the bottom of your handbag!

So, how to deal with this "Maskne"? Caudalie products have you covered."

"Scrupulous cleansing is key. Do the double cleanse. Two cleanses are essential to remove grime, make-up and SPF too, AM and PM. Swipe over with cotton wool and Micellar Cleansing Water, this will remove the superficial layer of grime.

Then get down to business with either the Gentle Cleansing Milk for a drier skin type, the Instant Foaming Cleanser or Vinopure Purifying Gel Cleanser for an oilier skin type. Ensure you really massage the product into your skin, concentrating on areas of congestion. Then remove thoroughly with a flannel, muslin cloth or cotton wool."

"Gentle exfoliation is key. But it’s better to exfoliate with a chemical style exfoliator rather than an abrasive physical product to avoid too much friction and spread of bacteria. The Glycolic Peel Mask works wonders. Gentle Glycolic Acid & Papaya clear the complexion and tighten pores without irritation. You should use twice a week after cleansing. Alternatively you can try the Instant Detox Mask. The clay will draw out all impurities to leave the skin glowing."

"Lastly light hydration and protection is key. Opt for a lightweight moisturiser or serum. Vinopure Skin Perfecting Serum will hydrate lightly but clear blemishes. Or Vinosource SOS Thirst Quenching Serum with its blend of grape water and skin plumping, Hyaluronic Acid is great for dehydrated skin.

Protect from the sun and environmental aggressors with SPF. Try Vinoperfect Radiance Moisturiser Broad Spectrum SPF 20 for every day use. For beach days go higher with Anti-Wrinkle Face Suncare SPF50. It provides broad spectrum protection (UVA&UVB)

Do all of this and "Maskne" begone!!”
