All Things Aldeburgh

With Aldeburgh Carnival taking place this weekend and Collen and Clare’s Caudalie Day happening shortly after on Wednesday 21st, it seems that Aldeburgh is the place to be this August! There’s so much to see and do in the gorgeous seaside town we call home, so we’ve put together a little Collen and Clare guide of some of our favourite spots for you.
One of our favourite things to do – other than shopping, of course – is to explore some of the fantastic places to eat and drink around the town. We love Two Magpies Bakery for freshly baked bread, and they do delicious coffee and cakes which are perfect for taking to one of the benches overlooking the sea; our favourite place to relax, watch the waves and take in the lovely coastal air. Then for dinner, we recommend The Lighthouse or The White Hart for a stone fired pizza and a glass of wine or a pint of Adnams.
The carnival is one of favourite weekends of the year, and we are fortunate that Aldeburgh is one of the few towns that has managed to continue the tradition which has been going since at least 1982. This year the weekend will kick off on Saturday the 17th with Music Day, which will be a chance to see various acts performing across different venues in the town centre. Sunday will be Sports Day, which will feature the famous ‘Mini Marathon’; a 10k run through the beautiful Suffolk countryside. Then on the Monday, it’s the Carnival Day itself. We highly recommend watching the evening procession in the High Street, which is always a rather special end to a brilliant weekend.
This year, the theme is ‘Lights, Camera, Action!’, which has been chosen to recognise and celebrate 100 years of Aldeburgh Cinema. At Collen and Clare, our window is ‘red carpet ready’, showcasing the best event dressing of the season.
Be sure to stick around because just two days later, on the 21st, we will be hosting a Skin Scanner Day in our Aldeburgh store, where skincare expert Abbie will be coming in to chat all things Caudalie. Using the latest skin scanning technology, she will be able to give you an in depth analysis of your skin, and advise you on the best products for you. It will be a really fun, informative day, so do pop in between 10 and 4 and say hello!
