Our Fashion New Year Resolutions
As 2018 comes to a close our thoughts turn to the new year and some of the key themes we believe will help you make great ‘New Year Wardrobe Resolutions’, no calorie counting, dry January’s or gym memberships here …. just good honest suggestions for a happy you however many resolutions fall by the wayside …..
1. SOURCE SUSTAINABLY
Merveilleuse Rich Moisturiser | £43.00
Top of our resolution list this year is to be more environmentally conscious and choose sustainably sourced items.
Every year, thousands of tonnes of clothes are thrown away and as much as 95% of those clothes could be recycled – it’s time for us all to start making the right choices.
Our most sustainable brands include Eileen Fisher, Veja and Sanoflore for whom environmentally friendly products are part of their reason for being. The use of materials such as organic cotton, wild rubber and 100% natural-origin scents sourced from organic farming all form part of the most interesting products we sell.
2. BUY LESS, BUY BETTER
Elsa Mid Rise Girlfriend in Mulberry | £162.00 (in the sale) AZ
Prioritise the everyday this new year and focus on building your wardrobe with investment pieces rather than impulse purchases.
We can think of no better time to do this than during our sale when luxurious items from brands such as S MaxMara (aspirational knitwear), Citizens of Humanity (the best of premium denim) and Belstaff (ultimate coats) are all discounted.
We constantly talk about ‘less is so much more’. Building a wardrobe is not about having 45 new pieces each season but more about identifying the shapes you need to ‘update’ your wardrobe. Sometimes just adding a new trouser or jumper can bring seasons old pieces back to life. Equally recycling of out of shape and off colour t-shirts is a job we must all do, some pieces just don’t get better with age…….
3. SHOP INDEPENDENT
The newspapers are full of the 2019 movement towards ‘decelerating’. This is a theme we are embracing at ‘c&c’, let’s do less at haste but do what we do even better.
The last few years have undeniably been about ‘more, more, more, faster, faster, faster’ and it’s taken it’s toll. The experts are now telling us all to take the time to shop, engage with real people with expert knowledge and make better purchasing choices.
The demise of the high street is well documented but we know that what we do goes way beyond the woes of the big brands. We are all about customer service, experience and location and believe these are the things will allow us to continue to grow – we have three lovely stores in great destination towns and a website that is supported with outstanding customer service.
Everything we sell has a story behind it, we take the time to select interesting things that you won’t find everywhere, we are truly independent.
4. FOCUS ON THE UNDERWEAR
Whether you are planning to change shape this new year or just want to feel good you need to start with one very important thing… underpinning!
A new set of underwear can change your silhouette making clothes fit and look so much better, we all change shape and making sure our underwear fits is key to comfort and confidence. For most of us those bras we wear day in day out will not support us properly for much longer than six months….. when did you last update your most worn bras…..?
We have trained bra fitters in our Southwold and Burnham Market stores, always on hand to take the stress and uncertainty our of underwear shopping. Bring on 2019 with no more poking wires or tight straps!
5. CLASH THE COLOURS
Pleated Midi Skirt in Poinciana | £195.00
Those old rules of never wearing ‘black with navy’, ‘pink with red’ and ‘white for anything other than a wedding dress’ have all gone to the wall.
We have seen over recent years and continue to see the power of clashing your colours. Whilst we are never going to advocate ‘banning the black’ we love nothing more than a rail of colour at ‘c&c’, orange and pink are constant best sellers but yellow and green (not together unless you are an ardent Norwich City fan) also sell very well.
With several months of dark evenings ahead of us make sure to add some colour to your Sale or New Season purchases.
6. PRIORITISE THE PRINT
Sza Midi Dress in Crazy Fuschia | £229.00
Don’t be afraid of prints, they are here to stay for 2019! Whilst we wait to see how much more ‘animal’ there is left in any of us, rest assured ‘prints’ ain’t going anywhere.
This spring promises climbing roses, lilies, cornflowers and flora at every turn. Combine them, layer them or just pick an accent we will all be blooming….. and pink will feature heavily…….
